The Last Stand

The Last Stand is a project about resilience in the face of time. Here, resilience is understood neither as heroism nor as recognised value, but as a property of existence itself: to continue being despite vulnerability, solitude, and outward insignificance. The solitary trees do not appear as symbols of defeat, but as forms of inner persistence – silent, fragile, and yet unceasing.

The material process is essential to the meaning of the work. The unpredictable colour shifts produced by Polaroid loosen the image from a fixed time and place, while the three-dimensional, almost bodily surface of the emulsion transfer shifts perception from document to trace. In this way, the image ceases to function as a simple depiction of a tree and begins to exist as a timeless statement, where what matters is not description, but the very idea of enduring presence.
