Between Surface and Light

Digital photography · Diptychs

The In-Between Gaze explores transformation through juxtaposition.
Each diptych brings together two photographs made while observing an unfamiliar environment. On their own, the images describe separate moments, places or gestures. Placed beside one another, they begin to alter each other: visual echoes, contradictions and accidental correspondences create a third meaning that belongs fully to neither photograph.
The series grew from the experience of looking at a new country from an in-between position – close enough for everyday life to become familiar, yet distant enough for small details and relationships to remain unusually visible. Rather than attempting to explain a place, the diptychs reflect the instability of perception itself: how context changes what we see, and how one image can transform another simply by being placed beside it.
