Description
The “Icebergs” series was captured in Western Greenland in 2019 during a yacht expedition. At night, icebergs take on an especially awe-inspiring and enigmatic presence, their immense forms both mesmerizing and perilous to approach. Yet, thanks to the generosity of the captain and crew, I had the rare opportunity to photograph these majestic giants under extraordinary conditions.
While the rest of the team slept, I remained in the wheelhouse, the only one awake besides the watchman. It was an intimate and deeply personal experience – one that I sought to translate into these images, capturing the quiet solitude and profound atmosphere of the Arctic night.
This iceberg bore a striking resemblance to Machu Picchu – how it might appear if freed from the embrace of surrounding mountains. I had visited the ancient site three years prior, and seeing this frozen colossus allowed me to bridge two worlds in my mind: the icy vastness of Greenland and the vivid, sun-drenched landscapes of Peru.
